Thousands of Palestinians have looted tonight on Wednesday, May 28 in the Gaza Food Program (PAM) (PAM), after a distribution of chaotic aid in the enclave devastated by the war between Israel and Hamas this Wednesday.
According to the images taken by the AFP, the crowd has left nothing, taking food bags, wooden palettes or even planks while the shots resonated. “The hordes of hungry people have broken into the warehouse (…) looking for food products that had prepared to be distributed,” PMA deplored in a statement that asks for “safe humanitarian access and without obstacles.”
The press release indicates that WFP tries to confirm the information that informs two dead and several injured during the incident. “The PMA has not stopped warning about the deterioration of the situation, (…) and the risks that the limitation of humanitarian aid for hungry people has a desperate need for help,” adds the text.
“All help boxes have been crushed”
Israel partially raised last week the total assistance blockade to Gaza imposed since March 2, officially to force Hamas to free their last hostages. Since then, the country says that it has allowed several hundred humanitarian trucks to pass.
On Tuesday, a chaotic distribution was injured 47 in a center of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a new organization created with the support of Israel and the United States, which implemented a system that the UN judges contrary to the humanitarian principles.
“All help boxes were crushed and everyone took what they wanted,” says a resident, Qasim Chalouf, who could seize “five bags of chickpeas and five kilos of rice.”
“About 47 people were injured,” “most of them bullets,” fired by the Israeli army, according to the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Office in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Israeli army has recognized “citation in the air” of its soldiers, “outside” from the center of the GHF, but “in no case for people.” The GHF also denied any shot to the crowd.
The Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon granted the responsibility of this chaos in Hamas before the Security Council, accusing him of having tried to “block” access to the distribution center with obstacles. And “the UN has now actively joined Hamas to try to block this help,” he said. “The UN uses threats, intimidation and reprisals against NGOs who have chosen to participate in the new humanitarian mechanism,” he added.
GHF does not “respect humanitarian principles” according to the UN
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General, said that the United Nations Negan on Wednesday to work with the new foundation, whose operations say, “do not respect our humanitarian principles.” He also assured that the UN was doing everything possible to recover arrival help through the Kerem Shalom crossing point.
“Since last week, around 900 trucks have been submitted to the Israel agreement, 800 have been approved, but only 500 have been downloaded on the Israeli side of Kerem Shalom and even less we could approve Palestinians on the Palestinian side, where we and our partners could collect a little more than 200 of them, hindered by insecurity and limited access,” Stéphane said Dajarric.
“If we cannot collect these products, I can tell you one thing, it is not because we are not trying,” he hit.
