End of a 47 -year -old cold case: an American teacher’s murderer had confessed his crime to a father

On June 16, 1978, Diane Peterson, a teacher from a high school in San José, was stabbed to death. His murder was finally resolved thanks to a close to the murderer, who had known the truth for almost 50 years.

For almost half a century, a person had known the identity of which he had stabbed Diane Peterson until death, a teacher of a high school in San José, California. After maintaining the secrets of decades during, he ended up sharing his secret with justice. The Santa Clara County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday, June 2 on Monday, that this murder dates back to 1978 was finally a case resolved, said, among others, ABC News or CBS News.

Diane Peterson had been found dead on June 16, 1978 in the establishment where she taught, Branham high school in San José. Quickly, police suspicions had become a 16 -year -old teenager, Harry “Nicky” Peterson. “Without having enough evidence or elements to ensure that he was the murderer.

A confession a few minutes after crime

A witness had appeared well to the police to tell them that Nickerson had confessed the murder. He even said he saw him with a knife in which “dear professor” was written, but the researchers had failed to corroborate these statements.

The turning point occurred earlier this year, when the researchers learned narcotic news: Nickerson had confessed to being the author of the murder to a family member shortly after stabbing Diane Peterson. Upon meeting this father of Nickerson, they had a clear heart: the young murderer had confessed his crime a few minutes after committing him.

The Santa Clara prosecutor’s office told ABC News that he would not chase the Harry Nickerson family member in question.

“He did not participate in the murder and did not provide protection or assistance. He was simply a witness,” he said. “This loved one was moved and seemed relieved after keeping the secret for almost 50 years.”

“The end of a horrible and tragic mystery”

Why did Nickerson’s father have all these years in silence? Santa Clara’s prosecutor’s office says he ignores it. However, it is “reasonable to assume that it was for fear of reprisals.”

Because Harry Nickerson continued adorning his criminal record in the years after the murder of Diane Peterson. Therefore, he was declared guilty of armed hand and kidnapping before being seriously injured by bullets in 1984. Harry Nickerson died nine years later.

The resolution of the murder of Diane Peterson “marks the end of a horrible and tragic mystery,” summarized Jeff Rosen, a Santa Clara prosecutor. “I am happy to have resolved this matter, even if the murderer is no longer alive to be taken before justice. I would have liked it to be.”
