Hamas is ready to start a new cycle of discussions, “serious”, in order to reach a truce agreement in Gaza, said the main negotiator of the Palestinian Islamist movement Khalil Al-Hayya, in a video message broadcast on Thursday, June 5.
“We are reaffirming to be organized for a new cycle of serious negotiations, in order to reach an agreement of high permanent fire,” Khalil Al-Hayya said in this recording, indicating that the contacts “with mediators and other parts continue” in this regard.
Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel through mediation provided by Qatar and Egypt and on the other by the United States may have seemed close to being successful at the end of May.
Trump ensures that an agreement is “very close”
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, had assured on May 30 that a high fire agreement that provides the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for that of the Palestinians in the possession of Israel was “very close.”
But Israel and Hamas have accused of having a proposal from the special envoy of Donald Trump to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, by proposing unacceptable changes.
Steve Witkoff himself had judged on May 31 “completely unacceptable” Hamas’ response.
Accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again to be the main obstacle to the conclusion of an agreement, Khalil Al-Hayya said Hamas “had not rejected” Witkoff’s last proposal, but insisted on the requirements of his movement.
The end of “militarized mechanism” for aid distribution
Hamas, he said, wants a “real guarantee” of the Americans to prevent Israel of Isracele of the United States.
And more than anything, Hamas demands that the truce make discussions for the “end of war”, while Benjamin Netanyahu and his government regularly repeat that it will only be reached when Hamas is “destroyed.”
