Israel leads strikes near Beirut, Lebanon denounces “a flagrant rape” of the Alto El Fuego

From Alto El Fuego between Israel and Hezbollah, which has entered into force at the end of November, it was the fourth time that Israel has attacked the suburbs of the south of Beirut, the bastion of the Islamist movement.

At least eight Israeli air attacks attacked on Thursday, June 5, the suburbs of southern Beirut on Thursday, June 5, where the Israeli army said it had objectives belonging to the “Air Unit” of Pro-Iranian Hezbollah after a call to evacuate the area.

This is the fourth time that Israel has attacked the South Suburbs, Bastion of Hezbollah, of Alto El Fuego between Israel and the Islamist movement entered into force at the end of November. These are the most violent attacks since then.

The Lebanese president, Joseph Aoun, denounced a “shameless violation” of the high fire and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam asked the international community to “assume their responsibilities to deter Israel to continue their attacks and force him to retire completely from the Lebanese territories.”

Panaches of Black Smoke emerged from the South Suburbs, according to live images broadcast by AFPTV, while the National Information Agency Ani has identified almost ten strikes, including two “very violent”. AFP journalists in the capital have heard at least two strong detonations.

A panic movement on the Eid’s eve

Colonel Avichay Adraee, spokesman for the Israeli army for the Arabic public, said in X that the Israeli army “currently attacked terrorist objectives belonging to the Hezbollah Air Unit (Unit 127) in the suburbs of southern Beirut.”

Shortly before the attacks, the streets of the South Suburbs of Beirut were paralyzed by the main traffic jams, according to an AFP photographer, who reported a massive trip of thousands after the fire by certain inhabitants to evacuate, and added that the sector had been completed and almost completely emptied.

This panic movement comes the day before Eid al-Adha, the most important Muslim celebration, which begins on Friday.

“The attacks (…) have revived panic and fear on the eve of Eid al-Adha,” said the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) in X.

Approximately one hour before the first attacks, Avichay Adraee urged the inhabitants to evacuate a radius of at least 300 meters around four buildings located in the districts of Al-Hadath, Haret Hreik and Bourj El-Barajneh, through a message published in X accompanied by letters.

He also asked to evacuate the town of Aïn Qana, located in the south of Lebanon, about twenty kilometers from the Israeli border, in advance of imminent strikes about what he presented as other Hezbollah facilities.

In a separate statement, the Israeli army had announced that “it would soon lead to a strike in underground drone production sites that have deliberately established themselves in the heart of the civilian population” in the suburbs of the south of the Lebanese capital.

Hundreds of dismantled positions of Hezbollah

“After the extensive use of Drones by Hezbollah as a central element of his terrorist attacks against the state of Israel, the terrorist organization is working to increase drone production for the next war,” said the statement. “These activities constitute a shameless violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon,” added the army in reference to the high fire.

This high fire ended with more than a year of hostilities, including two months of open war with the Lebanese Islamist movement, very weak for its commitment to Hamas in the war launched by the latter by attacking southern Israel on October 7, 2023 from Gaza. Hezbollah had opened a front on October 8, 2023 taking rockets from the south of Lebanon in northern Israel.

According to the provisions of Alto El Fuego, the pro-Iraní formation was to withdraw its forces and dismantle any military infrastructure to the south of the Litani River, about thirty kilometers from the Israeli border.

Shortly before these attacks, Lebanon Prime Minister Nawaf Salam had affirmed in a television speech that the Lebanese army had dismantled “more than 500 military positions and weapons of Hezbollah in the south of the country since November 27. But despite the cessation of fire, Israel remained at five strategic points on the border and continues to carry out the funds in the Lebanon against what the cessation of fire or the cessation of cessation or the border points and continue with the points of the border and continue at the height of the border points.
