A 71 -year -old woman died in Texas with an infection caused by an “brain that eats”, a few days after cleaning her breasts with tap water. This is indicated in a case report of disease control and prevention centers (CDC), cited by NBC News.
The septuagenarian, in addition with good health, has developed “severe neurological symptoms”, in particular fever, headache and alteration of mental state. These symptoms appeared only four days after cleaning their breasts with water in their motorhome.
Non -styled water, a risk factor
Victim of an infection caused by this amibe, called Naegleria Fowleri, and despite the treatment, suffered attacks of epilepsy and succumbed eight days after the appearance of symptoms.
In their report, the CDC indicates that the infection generally appears after “recreational aquatic activities”, but explains that breast cleaning with unstilated water is also a risk factor. The septuagenarian used it “repeatedly” before the appearance of its symptoms.
