“I like to decide in the last second”: Donald Trump keeps vagueness about his intentions a week after the beginning of the war between Iran and Israel

The US president said he did not make his decision regarding an American intervention in the conflict between Iran and Israel. When asked about a possible fall in the current power in Tehran, he indicated that this “could happen.”

Donald Trump said on Wednesday, June 18, that he had not yet made a decision on a possible participation of the United States in Israel’s strikes against Iran, stating before the press: “I can do it, maybe not.”

“No one knows what I am going to do,” added the US president, in a long exchange with journalists in the White House grass, where he had come to inspect the installation of a monumental flag mast.

While speculation intensifies about a possible direct participation of the United States in the war between Israel and Iran, after several days of intense fire exchanges between the two enemy countries, Donald Trump later launched: “I did not make (decision) final.” This time from the Oval office, where he received players from Juventus Turin.

“You have to do what you should do”

“I like to make a final decision before the limit,” he added, before participating for the second time in two days in a meeting in the “situation of the room”, the crisis room in the basement of the White House where the most sensitive military decisions are made.

“I am not trying to fight. But if the choice is to fight or have the nuclear bomb, you have to do what you have to do. And we may not have to fight,” he said, always in an enigmatic way.

The US president questioned about a possible fall in current power in Tehran, estimated that this “could happen.” According to Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump said Tuesday that he had approved the attack plans for Iran, but sustained them to see if Tehran did not return to his nuclear program.

“All options are on the table,” a White House manager told the AFP interviewed on this issue.

“Irreparable damage”

The Republican leader also assured that Iran had come into contact with the United States to negotiate. “Yes,” he answered the question of whether Iran had contacted the United States. “I told them that it was too late to chat (…). There is a big difference between now and a week ago, right?”

“I told them: ‘Why didn’t you negotiate with me before all these dead and destruction?'” He said, believing it was “not too late.” “They even suggested coming to the White House,” added Donald Trump.

Iran quickly denied. “No Iranian official never asked to crawl at the doors of the White House,” wrote the Iranian mission at the UN in X.

“Iran does not negotiate under stress” and “will not accept peace under restriction,” replied to the “last ultimatum” described by Donald Trump a little earlier.

Iran “will never go”

The Iranian Supreme Guide Ali Khamenei proclaimed on Wednesday that his country will never go “and warned the United States, the allies of Israel, against” irreparable damage “in case of an American intervention.

For Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with whom he speaks “every day,” said Donald Trump on Tuesday to “continue.” The US president, on the other hand, postponed the mediation offer of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to which he was “open” over the weekend.

“He proposed to do the mediator, I told myself a favor, do the mediator for himself. We first take care of Russia’s mediation, agree? You can take care of that (the conflict in the Middle East) later,” said Donald Trump.
