Gaza’s civil defense announced that 76 people, including 21 who came to seek humanitarian aid, had been killed by the Israeli army on Thursday, June 19 in the Palestinian, devastated and hungry territory for more than twenty months of war.
Ten people were killed near Khan Younès, six of whom expected help in the south of the Gaza Strip, and another 15 in the Netzarim corridor, in the center of Gaza, where thousands of people come every day with the hope of receiving food, the spokesman for civil defense, Mahmoud Bassal told AFP.
According to him, another 51 people were killed on Thursday during nine Israeli strikes in the city of Gaza and the north of the besieged territory.
At least 397 dead during help distributions
Israel imposed a humanitarian block in early March, partially relaxed at the end of May, which led to a very serious shortage of food, drugs and other basic needs.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by Washington and Israel, with opaque funds, began to distribute help at the end of May, but its distributions were marked by chaotic and murderous scenes.
Since then, 397 people have been killed and more than 3,000 other wounds when trying to reach the Gaza aid distribution points, according to the last updated evaluation of the Hamas Ministry of Health, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.
Regarding Netzarim’s incident, the Israeli army told AFP that his soldiers had fired “warnings” to “suspicious” that they approached them, but that she “was not aware.”
“They started shooting us”
Bassam Abu Shaar, a Palestinian movement, told AFP that thousands of people gathered during the night in the hope of recovering food at the help distribution site administered by the GHF near Netzarim, before its opening in the morning.
“Around 1 in the morning, they began to shoot us. Tanks, airplanes and bombs thrown by intensified drones,” he told AFP on the phone.
He claims to have seen dead and wounded lying on the ground a few steps from the center of the GHF. “We couldn’t help them, or even escape,” he added, saying he was trapped in the middle of a dense crowd.
The victims were transported to the Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals, in the north and center of the territory, according to the civil defense.
Given the restrictions imposed by Israel in the media in Gaza and the difficulties of access to the field of war, AFP cannot independently verify the civil defense independently.
