Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday, June 24 on Tuesday, fears “a higher risk” of Uranium underground enrichment after US and Israelis attacks in Iranian nuclear sites.
“This is one of the main risks to the region, the international community, so we must keep in touch (with the Iranians, the editor’s note) (…) and we must avoid absolutely preventing I will go on this path,” said Emmanuel Macron de Norway.
“It would be an irresponsible path for regional security, for international nuclear proliferation, but also for” Iranian leaders, the French president added.
Uranium uranium enriched uncertainties
The Iranian government said Tuesday that “it took the necessary measures” to guarantee the continuation of the nuclear program after US and Israeli attacks. Many questions remain in particular about what happened with the uranium stock enriched at 60%, level close to the 90% threshold necessary for the design of an atomic bomb.
The risk of uranium enrichment apart from the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IEA) “is a risk that has existed and that we have been reducing since the JCPOA weakened,” said Emmanuel Macron in reference to the withdrawal of the United States in 2018 of the nuclear agreement with Iran.
“This risk has increased with what happened recently,” he added.
Emmanuel Macron also praised “the call” to a high fire between Israel and Iran for Donald Trump, emphasizing that it was “very good.” “There have been important and completely positive statements to call everyone to return to the discussion table and the fire ceases, but the last minutes showed that the situation remained very fragile,” he added.
