Salvador accuses Paris’s fashion week to glorify “criminals”

The stylist Willy Chavarría, of Mexican origin and was born in the United States, presented on Friday in Paris a parade where he kneel kneeling with t -shirts and white shorts, hands behind him, a symbol in honor of foreigners expelled under the administration of Donald Trump.

The Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, joked on Saturday saying that he could send prisoners in France, after a parade of the political tone to the Fashion Week of Paris with models that resemble the detainees.

The stylist Willy Chavarría, of Mexican origin and was born in the United States, presented on Friday in Paris a parade where he knelt men dressed in t -shirts and white shorts, with his hands behind the back, a symbol in honor of foreigners expelled under the administration of Donald Trump, of which Mr. Bukele is a close Ally.

The clothing was like those imposed on the detainees of the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOC), the high security prison built by the president of Salvador to imprison gang members and become a symbol of their war against the criminal gangs of depression.

The 252 Venezuelans expelled from the United States, under the accusation, not supported, to belong to the Criminal Group Train of Aragua.

“We are ready to send them to Paris as soon as we receive the green light of the French government,” Bukele said in reaction to a video of the parade that shows kneeling models on Saturday.

The Press Secretariat of the Salvadora presidency said that the fashion parade “paid tribute to the criminals imprisoned in the CECOT”, praising the “firm position” of the head of state.

Since March 2022, Mr. Bukele has carried out an offensive against gangs with the establishment of an emergency state that allows arrests without a judicial mandate.

His war against crime, which fell homicides at historically low levels, earned him great popularity. However, the state of emergency is criticized by human rights organizations.

Under this regime, around 86,000 people accused of being members of gangs or accomplices were arrested, of which some 8,000 were released after being recognized innocent, according to the Government, although the humanitarian groups claim that they remain monitored.
