A case that never stops reacting. The president of Salvador, Nayib Bukele, denies the claims made by Kilmar Abrego García, this Salvadoran immigrant for a time expelled from the United States by mistake, who said he had suffered violence in detention.
“If he was tortured, deprived of sleep and hunger, why does it seem so good in all photos?” The President says in the social network X.
“This man has not been tortured and has not lost weight. In fact, the photos show that he has increased weight during his arrest. There are many images of different days, including his meeting with Senator Van Hollen, who he himself confirmed that the man seemed healthy,” said Nayib Bukele.
“Hands”, “Sleep deprivation” …
Kilmar Abrego García, 30, is currently being held in Tennessee in the United States, where he is accused of having transported illegal migrants.
His lawyers said that his client had been “subject to a bad treatment upon his arrival at CECOT (Center for the Confine Terrorism, the editor’s note), including violent blows, sleep deprivation, inappropriate food and psychological torture”, in a document given to a court in Maryland.
Upon arriving, “he and another 20 Salvadorans were forced to remain on the knees of the 9 pm at 6 am, and the supervisors hit those who fell from fatigue,” lawyers said. Meanwhile, “he was not allowed to go to the bathroom and contaminate.”
After more than three weeks, Kilmar Abrego García says that he was transferred to another arrest area and has been “photographed with mattresses and better quality food” in what he considers a staging.
Ejected by mistake, then returned to the United States
Of Salvadoran nationality, the year 30 years is a resident of Maryland married to an American. He was misleading to Salvador before being taken to the American soil in early June. His wife filed a complaint against the Trump administration after the expulsion of her husband. The executive asked a federal judge from Maryland to reject the complaint, arguing that it is not an object.
His case crystallizes the opinion and has become emblematic of the opposition between federal justice and the administration of Donald Trump about his massive expulsion policy.
Kilmar Abrego García asked at the end of June to remain in prison in the United States for fear of being expelled again as soon as he was released.
