A false fire alert aboard a Ryanair plane that was preparing to take off from the Spanish airport of Palma de Mallorca led to an evacuation by inflatable ramps, during which several passengers were slightly injured, the Irish airline said this Saturday, July 5.
Palma’s flight from Mallorca-Manchester on Friday night “suspended its takeoff due to a false fire alarm. The passengers were landed by the inflatable ramps and brought back to the terminal,” Ryanair said in a press release.
“During landing, a small number of passengers underwent very light injuries (excited ankles, etc.) and the crew requested immediate medical assistance,” Ryanair added, without specifying the number.
“There was no fire on this plane”
The local media of Mallorca, such as the last minute newspaper, speak of 18 injured, all minors, six of which had to be hospitalized, the others were treated on the spot.
“There was no fire on this plane,” said the low -cost airline, very popular among British tourists to go to coastal destinations in Spain and southern Europe, such as the island of Mallorca.
Aena, the public company that manages Spanish airports, confirmed that “there was an incident in a Ryanair plane last night at Palma de Mallorca airport.” “There was no fire and the incident did not affect airport operations,” he added
