The new indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas will resume this Monday, July 7 in Qatar on Monday, July 7 for a truce agreement in the Gaza Strip, expected “this week” by US President Donald Trump, who met at night in Washington Israeli, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Donald Trump estimated on Sunday that there was a “good opportunity” to reach a truce agreement in the Palestinian territory devastated for 21 months of war. “We have already released many hostages, but with respect to the remaining hostages, a good number will be released. We are thinking about it this week,” he told reporters.
Before flying to the United States, Benjamin Netanyahu estimated that his meeting with Donald Trump could “help advance this result that we all expect.”
Discussions on “Implementation Mechanisms”
A Palestinian official who said the discussions said Monday that indirect discussions should be resumed in the morning in Doha between the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and Israel. At 12:30 pm GMT (2:30 pm French hour), however, there was no confirmation of the resumption of negotiations.
They are related “to the implementation mechanisms” of a high fire agreement and an “exchange” of hostages retained in Gaza for Palestinians stopped in Israel, added this manager, speaking under the cover of the anonymity.
The meeting between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu is not scheduled before 10:30 pm GMT (00:30, French time) and will take place outside the usual presence of journalists, said the White House.
The US president, who will receive Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday for the third time in less than six months, presses a truce in the Gaza Strip, immersed himself in a critical humanitarian situation.
According to the Palestinian official on the path of discussions in Qatar, last night an exploratory session (Domingo) was held in Doha, through the mediators, related to an “exchange of views with respect to the mechanism for the exchange of hostages and prisoners, the high fire and the withdrawal (Israeli)”.
The Hamas delegation was in a room and the Israeli delegation in another, in the same building, he said.
“Hamas is serious and anxious to lead to an agreement to end the war and suffering of our people, provided that the Israeli part is in good faith and does not seek to hinder or drag the process,” said the Palestinian official.
Towards a 60 -day truce in Gaza?
Benjamin Netanyahu had indicated last week he had given his negotiators “Clear Instructions”: to reach an agreement “to the conditions we have accepted”.
The Israeli leader had considered “unacceptable” on Saturday the “changes that Hamas seeks to contribute to the proposal” initially sponsored by the United States and transmitted by Qatar and Egyptian mediators.
The Palestinian sources close to the discussions had indicated that the proposal included a 60 -day truce, during which Hamas would release ten hostages that still live and put bodies of dead captives, in exchange for the release of Palestinians owned by Israel.
The changes claimed by the Islamist movement, according to these sources, are related to the terms of the withdrawal of the Israeli troops of Gaza, the guarantees that it wishes to obtain in the cessation of hostilities after 60 days, and on a resumption of the distribution of humanitarian aid by the UN and recognized international organizations.
Benjamin Netanyahu has an “important mission” in Washington, said Israeli President Israeli Herzog, after meeting with him on Sunday morning: “advocating an agreement to bring all our hostages back home.”
At least 57,523 Palestinians killed
Of the 251 people kidnapped during the attack on Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, at the origin of the war, 49 are still retained in Gaza, including 27 declared dead by the Israeli army.
A first one -week truce in November 2023, then a second of two months in early 2025, allowed the return of many hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinians held by Israel.
In the Gaza Strip, including the more than two million inhabitants, often inappropriate, live in terrible conditions, according to the UN and the NGOs, the civil defense reported the death of 12 people, killed on Monday by shots or new Israeli bombings.
At least 57,523 Palestinians, mainly civilians, were killed in Israeli reprisals in Gaza, according to data from the Hamas Ministry, considered reliable by the UN.
