It is a “crazy situation” that is an “absurd”, according to Maxime Gleizes, the brother of the French journalist Christophe chained in Algeria after his sentence to seven years in prison for “apologies for terrorism.”
The independent journalist who regularly collaborates with SO Foot and Society, Christopheizes went to Algeria in May 2024 for a report on a Kabylia football club. He was accused of having been in contact with a member of a terrorist organization classified by Algeria, who earned him the imprisonment today.

“When you know my brother, he is someone very empathic who has a very strong human soul. Accusing terrorism, they are light years of what it is,” says Maxime Glees.

Since his conviction, Christopheizes has been complying with his sentence in the prison of Tizi Ouzou. A petition at the site of reporters without borders that ask for the “immediate liberation” of French has collected 15,810 signatures.
