The Israeli army announced Monday that it has hit “several tanks” in southern Syria, an area that was the scene of clashes between the Sunni Beduine tribes and the fighters of Druzes who left more than 89 dead according to an NGO.
“The army attacked several tanks recently in the area between Soueïda and Samia, in southern Syria,” said a military statement. This strike follows the community battles that have been in waste for several days in the region.
Murderous community fights
In fact, the Syrian forces sent reinforcements on Monday in the province of southern Souid to try to end the clashes between the Beduine Sunni tribes and the Druss combatants who left at least 89 dead in two days, argued the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (OSDH).
This new violence between communities illustrates the security challenges facing the temporal power of Ahmad al-Chareh since he defeated President Bashar al-Assad in December in a country bruised by almost 14 years of civil war.
On Monday, the clashes continued on the outskirts of the city with a Druse de Soueïda, in the hands of Druzes’ fighters, said the local Suwayda information site and the local Suwayda site. They oppose “Beduine tribes and members of the security forces with Druss fighters,” said the United Kingdom headquarters but has a vast network of sources in Syria.
The province of Soueida is the home of the largest Duse community in the country, an esoteric minority of Islam, which has about 700,000 members in Syria.
A border “defined by Israel”
After April’s clashes, Israel had invoked the protection of druse to justify several attacks in Syria.
According to Israeli journalist Amit Segal, “Syrian tanks crossed the border defined by Israel and Israeli combat aircraft have hit them.” The surprising area is around one hundred kilometers while the crow flies from the Israeli border.
Similarly, an Israeli military source explained to the media Walla that the objective of this strike was “to avoid the movement of the tanks in an area where the Israeli army does not authorize Syrian military forces to penetrate.”
The same source said it was an “unusual operation” that aims to “establish priorities over what Israel will authorize or not to happen in the region,” is written in the position of Jerusalem.
