Strike strike in a church in Gaza: the Pope spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu

Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed his call to a high fire to Benjamin Netanyahu after an Israeli strike in the church of the Sainte-Famille de Gaza that killed three people this Thursday, July 17.

During this exchange, the sovereign pontiff expressed concern about the “dramatic humanitarian situation” in the Gaza Strip and renewed his call to the cessation of hostilities, reports the Vatican.

He also emphasized the need to protect religious sites in the Palestinian and Israel territories. Three people died and several other wounds on Thursday morning after an Israeli army strike to the “incident” that aroused international outrage, including that of the Holy Father.

Only the Latin Catholic Parish of the Enclave

The place of worship, shelter for many Palestinians since the beginning of the war between Hamas and Israel in October 2023 and now the only Latin Catholic parish of the enclave, suffered damage.

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed his deep repentance on Thursday, so the Israeli authorities present as an “error.” The Israeli army said that “a preliminary investigation suggests that the explosions of a shell drawn during an operation in the sector have mistakenly affected the Church.”
