“We have to end this war.” The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said in statements broadcast this Friday, July 25, that Ukrainian and Russian negotiators began to discuss a possible meeting between the leaders of the two countries, a scenario towards the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“We have to end this war, which is probably starting with a leaders meeting,” said Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting with journalists in which AFP participated on Thursday, adding that Russian negotiators “began to discuss it” with the Ukrainian part.
“Patriot Air Defense Systems”
In this same series of statements, he also announced that Ukraine was working to finance ten patriot air defense systems, after an agreement with Washington that allows European countries to buy US weapons to provide them in kyiv.
“The president of the United States will transfer us, it will sell us these systems. Our task is to find funds for these ten systems,” said Volodymyr Zelensky, and added that the financing of three of these defense systems was already sure.
The Russians and the Ukrainians concluded a third negotiation session in Istanbul on Wednesday night pointing the “distance” of their positions and, ultimately, only agreeing a new exchange of prisoners.
