A landslide in China, caused by torrential rains, left four dead and eight missing, announced on Monday, July 28, an official medium, the bad weather that led to the evacuation of thousands of inhabitants. The disaster occurred in the town of Xigou, in Hebei, the province that surrounds the capital of Beijing, due to the “strong precipitation,” said CCTV State Television.
Several thousand people evacuated
The national authorities responsible for emergency management announced on Monday the sending of a team on the site to support the fight against “serious” floods that reach the region. Large areas in northern China have faced abundant rains in recent days.
The official media reported two dead last Saturday due to record precipitation in Hebei. According to the same source, more than 4,600 people were evacuated this weekend in the Fuping canton.
In the neighboring province of Shanxi (north of China), a person could be rescued, but another 13 are still missing after a bus accident, according to CCTV.
The images transmitted on Sunday by the chain showed roads and drowned fields under water torrents. In the capital of Beijing, more than 3,000 inhabitants of the Miyun district, in the large semi-rural suburbs of the city, had to be evacuated due to torrential rains.
Frequent natural disasters in China
The local deposit has registered its “greater influx of water” since its construction more than 60 years ago, official means said. Videos transmitted by CCTV Show cars carried by waves.
Natural disasters are frequent in China, especially during the summer, where certain regions experience intense rains, while others are beaten by drought.
