Ukraine: Parliament approves the restoration of the independence of anti -corruption organisms

The Ukrainian Parliament adopts a bill that restores the independence of the agencies to combat corruption after the aborted attempt of the Ukrainian president to place them under the executive’s thumb.

The Ukrainian Parliament approved on Thursday, July 31, the restoration of the independence of the anti -corruption agencies on Thursday, July 31, a time undermined by a text that finally withdraw for President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The law approved on July 22 planned to place the National Anti -Corruption Agency (NABU) and the Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) directly under the supervision of the Attorney General, appointed by the Head of State.

Manifestations

Decree by civil society and the European Union, the law adopted had caused the first important demonstrations in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022. Hundreds of people still met Wednesday night in kyiv, shortly before new mortal attacks of the Russian army.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, finally proposed a new bill that restored the independence of interested agencies.
