The Swedish jihadist Osama Krayem, already sentenced by the attacks of Paris and Brussels in 2015 and 2016, received this Thursday, July 31, a prison sentence in Sweden for his participation in the murder filmed of a burning Jordanian pilot burned in a Daesh group cage in Syria.
The Stockholm Court is the first, and the only one, who has tried a person for this murder committed by Daesh members, who had shocked the entire world in 2015.
“The defendant was in the place of execution, in uniform, armed, and agreed to be filmed (…) contributed so decisive to the death of the victim that it must be considered as co -author of the facts,” Judge Anna Liljenberg Gullesjö, cited in a statement from the missing court.
The victim “burned alive”
On December 24, 2014, a Jordanian Air Force plane had been filmed in Syria near Raqqa, and the pilot, Muath al-Kasasbeh, captured by Daesh the same day. A video posted on February 3, 2015 will organize its murder: the cage burns for one of the 13 combatants present, among which is the Swedish, which lights the pilot.
“His behavior consisted, in concert with other men, to keep the victim both before and during the execution, and to take her to the cage where she was burned a lot,” added the magistrate.
The verdict conforms to the accusations of the prosecutors. Osama Krayem was tried for “act of terrorism” and “aggravated war crime” during the trial held from June 4 to 26.
The court also granted compensation to the parents, brothers and sisters of the Jordanian pilot, up to 80,000 Swedish crowns (almost 7,200 euros) each. The 32 -year -old jihadist remained silent during the duration of the audiences. Therefore, a selection of filmed and written interrogations paid to the investigation file during the trial was read and released.
The jihadist “does not seem to have been traumatized”
Osama Krayem admits to having been present at the scene, but says he was not aware of what was going to happen before seeing the cameras, according to his lawyer.
He had moved from Jordan on the occasion of this trial to testify, still animated, that he shares with his loved ones.
His lawyer, during his final argument, deplored that the defendant would not have shown any empathy or regret before the court.
“Most of the people who would have witnessed what Muath suffered without a doubt would need a life treatment, or at least long, to overcome the trauma that causes it in an individual normally constituted,” said Mikael Westerlund.
“Krayem does not seem to have been traumatized, but inspired. Inspired to continue his terrorist business, which led him to participate and then be sentenced by terrorist acts in Europe,” added Mikael Westerlund.
The Swedish has already been sentenced to 30 years in prison in France for complicity during the attacks of Paris in 2015 already perpetuity in Belgium for the attacks at the main airport in Brussels and in the Metro in 2016.
France agreed on March 12 to give it to Sweden for nine months, the moment of investigation and sentence. It will have to be sent there to December 27, 2025, said the Stockholm Court in his statement on Thursday.
