A person was killed and other eleven were injured on Monday, August 4 in a collision between a cargo train and a tourist bus in the Leningrad region, near St. Petersburg, in the northwest of Russia, authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly after 3 GMT hours, according to a press release from the local antenna of the Russian railways.
“12 bus passengers were injured, one of whom died”
The bus was released on the railroad just in front of the train that was approaching at full speed, between the stations of Lodeïnoie Pole and Olonets, according to the statement.
The train driver tried to stop, “but the distance was too small and we could not avoid a collision,” according to the same source.
“According to the first information, 12 bus passengers were injured, one of which died,” said the press release.
Road safety rules are frequent in Russia, where there have been several murderous accidents in recent years.
