Donald Trump announced on Thursday, August 7 that he would bring together the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan the next day for the signing of a “historical” peace agreement, between these two former Soviet republics involved for decades in a territorial conflict.
“Many leaders have tried to finish the war, so far, thanks to ‘Trump’,” said US President Thursday night in his Truth social network.
He said that a “peace firm” ceremony would be organized during this “historical summit” with the participation of President Azerbaiyan Ilham Aliev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pachinian.
A bilateral agreement between the United States and the two countries
The US president will first welcome the two leaders separately, and each will sign a bilateral agreement between the United States and his country, before the firm at 8:15 pm of the tripartite agreement.
According to the CBS channel, the text grants in the United States the development rights of a 43 -kilometer corridor in the Armenian territory, which will be called “Path Trump for international peace and prosperity” or tripp.
Erevan confirmed that the Armenian prime minister would have an interview with the US president “to strengthen the strategic association between Armenia and the United States”, adding that a “tripartite meeting (…) with Donald Trump and the president of Azerbaijan (it would also have been contributing to peace, development and economic cooperation in the region.”
The last meeting between Nikol Pachinian and Ilham Aliev, on July 10 in Abu Dhabi, resulted in any tangible progress for a completion of the peace agreement in which the two states of the Caucasus had agreed in March after very long negotiations.
Before any firm, Azerbaijan presented a list of requirements to Armenia, including the addition of amendments to the Armenian Constitution, including the abandonment of any territorial claim on the disputed region of Karabakh.
“A high fire or peace agreement per month”
The two countries met during two wars to control this mountainous territory, which Azerbaiyan finally took over the Armenian separatists during a flash offensive in 2023.

The list of candidates is not public by the Norwegian committee that grants the distinction, but Israel, Cambodia and Pakistan have recently announced that they were nominated for Donald Trump.
