Russian troops quickly advanced in a strategic sector of the front in eastern Ukraine, said the army and analysts of Ukraine on Tuesday, a few days before waiting for peace conversations between the United States and Russia.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, told him that Russia was not preparing “not ending the war”, but for “new offensives” in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian army staff said Tuesday morning that the fighting took place in Koutcheriv Iar, a small town that was still a few weeks ago from the front, in fact admitting the Russian progress in this area.
A ten kilometers advance
This progression took place to the northeast of Pokrovsk, a mining city and epicenter of the fighting, in the eastern region of Donetsk, whose Moscow affirms the annexation. In a single day, Russia has advanced about ten kilometers north along a road, according to the Deepstate Military Analysis site, near the Ukrainian army, a much more sustained rhythm.
A front map, published by Deepstate, shows a narrow corridor now under Russian control, which threatens the garrison of the city of Dobropillia, northwest of Pokrovsk.
The Donetsk Operational Tactical Group, which fights in the area, said Tuesday on Facebook that “was involved in exhausting defensive fights” against “clearly higher russian forces”. According to the group, a “complex, unpleasant and dynamic situation due to the infiltration of Russian troops between the Ukrainian defense lines.
An analysis shared by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which said it was “premature” to qualify Russian advances as “operational advance”, and that the next few days would be “probably crucial.”
Three dead and 13 wounded in attacks
A Ukrainian military blogger, Sternenko, wrote on Telegram that this advance had allowed Russian troops to take certain parts of a road that connected important cities in the region. He said previously that the situation was “critical.”
The ISW compared this tactical penetration with which it had allowed an important Russian advance in April 2024, after taking the city of Avdiivka, at the expense of a long and bloody battle.
The National Police has announced that three people had been killed and another 13 wounds on Tuesday in Russian Planning and Rocket Bombs attacks in this same region.
Ukraine fears that the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on Friday, scheduled for the moment without the participation of his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, will lead to an agreement that would force her to renounce parts of her territory to Russia.
