In the streets of kyiv, the Ukrainians express their frustration after the lack of agreement between Putin and Trump after a summit between the two heads of state dedicated to war in Ukraine.
“It is very complicated, we are waiting for concrete actions and the end of the war,” said Oksana Melnyx, a resident of kyiv. “We are waiting for the victory of Ukraine.”
“It does not depend on them to talk about that”
The attire of its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, speaks exasperated certain inhabitants of the Ukrainian capital. “How is possible? It is the fate of my country, it does not depend on them to decide,” says Hanna Kucherenko. “It does not depend on them to gather, it does not depend on them to talk about that.”
The Ukrainian president, who spoke by phone with Donald Trump after the summit, reaffirms on social networks the will of Ukraine to deploy all possible efforts to achieve peace. A position that may defend the US president directly, a meeting scheduled for Monday, August 18 in Washington.
For his part, Petro Poroshenko, former Ukrainian president, asks for surveillance. “I negotiated with Putin. You shouldn’t trust her,” he said. “We have to talk to Putin, not in Russian or in English, but with the language of force.” Specifically, “if Putin does not stop bombing,” according to the former president, “it will be necessary to go to Plan B, that is, more weapons delivered to Ukraine, including offensive weapons.”
