Who are the five journalists killed in Gaza in a bombing of the Israeli army in a hospital?

Five journalists were killed in Gaza this Monday, August 25, in a bombing of the Israeli army aimed at a hospital. Almost 200 have been killed since the beginning of the war in the Palestinian enclave.

Press freedom attacked again in Gaza. Five journalists, some of whom collaborated with international media such as Al Jazeera, Reuters and AP, were killed on Monday, August 25 in Israeli strikes in a hospital in the south of the enclave that left a total of 20 dead.

According to the Civil Defense, the Israeli army of the Nasser Hospital of Khan Younès was hit twice by the Israeli army, first by an explosive drone, then by an aerial bombardment while the injured were evacuated.

The Israeli army acknowledged having directed “a strike in the Nasser hospital area”, and announced a “investigation.” Regretting “any damage caused to people who are not involved,” he said “he did not add up to journalists as such.”

The death of these journalists occurs two weeks after that of five journalists who work for Al Jazeera in southern Gaza, one of which Israel identified as a “terrorist.”

Before the attacks on Monday, the Journalist Protection Committee (CPJ) and reporters Sin Frontières (RSF) identified almost 200 journalists killed since the beginning of the war in Gaza, caused by the attack against Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023.

Mohammad Salama

The Arabic Vista al Jazeera has announced death at the place of one of its photojournalists and images reporter, Mohammad Salama.

“With this last crime, which cost Mohammed Salama, the number of Jazeera journalists killed by Israel in Gaza reached the number of ten,” said the Qatari channel in a statement published on his social networks.

“The media network of Al Jazeera condemns, in the strongest terms, this horrible crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces, who have directly attacked and murdered journalists as part of a systematic campaign to silence the truth,” he adds.

The editor, in the main media, Mohamed Moawad, praised Skynews the memory of a “very devout and brave photoperiodist who covered southern Gaza since the beginning of this war.”

Al-Masri hospital

“We are devastated to learn the death of Hospi Al-Masri, collaborator of Reuters, and the injuries inflicted to another of our employees, Hatem Khaled, during the Israeli strikes against the Nasser Hospital,” said Canado-British Reuters News Agency in a statement.

“The witnesses said that the second strike had taken place after the precipitous arrival of rescuers, journalists and other people in the scene of the initial attack” against the hospital, explains Reuters.

“The live Reuters video of the Hospital, managed by Hospi Al-Mes, was suddenly cut at the time of the first strike,” said the agency.

Mariam Dagga

The American news agency Associated Press (AP) said it was “shocked and sad” for the death of Mariam Dagga, 33, an independent photographic journalist who has been collaborating with the agency since the beginning of the war. Employed as an independent professional, she was not in a mission for the agency at the time of events, AP said.

Moaz Abou Taha

The Palestinian journalist union identified the photojournalist Moaz Abu Taha as one of the victims of the Israeli attack.

The Palestinians in the 200,000 subscribers on Instagram document the consequences of the bombing of the Israeli army and the famine that attacks the enclave.

Ahmad Abou Aziz

Ahmad Abu Aziz died of his wounds after being a victim of the attack on the Nasser hospital, becoming the fifth journalist killed in the attack.

According to Al Jazeera, Ahmad Abu Aziz worked for Quds News Network, a press agency presented by the Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) as “Affiliated in Hamas”.
