Know Sansal, the daughter of the writer Franco-Algerio Boalem Sansal asks “France and his partners” to stop “to consider this case as secondary”, and asks “an important international mobilization” for his father, in an interview granted by Le Figaro published this Wednesday, August 27.
On July 1, Boalem Sansal was sentenced by appeal to five years in prison, particularly for “damage to national unity”, in a context of diplomatic struggle between Paris and Algiers. In the columns of the Daily French, his daughter declares that he wishes to “force the Algerian regime to stop martyrizing” his father and free him “before he is too late.”
In April, Sabha and Nawel Sansal, the two daughters of the writer, had sent an open letter to the Elysée to ask for their father’s launch. Without the un responding of Emmanuel Macron, he knows Sansal on Wednesday that “when a writer is touched, the universal is reached.”
“France owes you”
“The participation (of his detention) greatly exceeds the case of Boalem Sansal: it refers to freedom of expression, human dignity, respect for international law,” he said in Le Figaro.
From his father’s arrest, Sansal knows “he has not had direct contact with (s) about the father.” “They deliberately keep us in ignorance, as if we were trying to cut my father from the rest of the world, to reduce him to silence,” says his daughter.
It remarkably points out the inaction of the French government, claiming that France “has given too much time the impression of dealing with this file with caution”, adding that “France owes him protection.”
“The President of the Republic sends an unequivocal message: the freedom of Boalem Sansal is not a variable of diplomatic adjustment, it is a political and moral requirement,” Sansal continues.
On the side of the Algerian authorities, his daughter claims not to be in contact with them. “Power has chosen closure and opacity,” deplores.
“Incarcear, he is violating his own texts”
In the columns of Figaro, Sansal knows he also wanted to convey a message to the Algerian government: “My father never exercised any mission than that of the writer. He has never handled any other weapon than words, and his words are protected.”
“Rollover is to violate its own fundamental texts is to deny their own principles. The entire world sees this contradiction, and the entire world will judge,” added Sansal.
The Sansal issue revived the tensions between Paris and Algiers in July 2024 for the recognition of France of an autonomy plan “under the Moroccan sovereignty” for the Western Sahara, a territory discussed for 50 years of Morocco and the separatists of the polisarium supported by the algiators.
During this diplomatic crisis, restrictions were carried out for diplomatic visas, but also the expulsions of diplomats both in France and Algeria.
