The main suspect in the disappearance of Little Maddie McCann, who has been in Portugal in 2007, which is currently in prison for other facts, could soon be released. A situation considered disturbing by German prosecutor Christian Wolters because this man is “dangerous,” he told the France-Presse agency this Thursday, September 4.
The prosecutor emphasizes that Christian Brückner is still “fundamentally dangerous.” According to him, the expert psychiatrist who examined him recently concluded that “they are waiting for new sexual assaults.” “No therapy followed (…) in prison and, therefore, we must start with the principle that will repeat,” said Christian Wolters.
Consequently, the prosecution requested that Christian Brückner was subject to surveillance measures, such as an electronic bracelet or an obligation to inform his speech, but Justice has not yet decided the question.
Even subject to such control, he will continue to be “a free man,” warns the prosecutor. “I think it will go from Germany due to all this agitation of the media,” he said.
There are no sufficient elements for accusation
The suspect must be released before September 17 after complying with a sentence for the violation of an American, committed in 2005 to Praia da Luz, where Little Maddie, 3 years old and the British citizen, also disappeared.
In 2020, German researchers suddenly appointed Christian Brückner as their main suspect, ensuring concrete evidence. But these elements proved to be insufficient for charges. However, the survey and experience continue.
The girl disappeared while she was on vacation with her parents in Portugal and at that time, Christian Brückner lived to the side. Research notably made it possible to demonstrate that a telephone associated with its limited name near the place where Maddie was sleeping, when he disappeared.
The prosecutor said that his team did not release his efforts in the McCann archive, and that he was still hoped to confuse his suspect. The result of a search in June in Portugal, in particular, “has not yet been exploited,” he said.
“For us, he is responsible for Madeleine’s death”
If you do not want to advance in a calendar or for the probability of an accusation, the prosecutor still considers a position of Christian Brückner.
“In five years of investigations, we have not found anything that can refute the suspicions aimed at Christian B.: There is no element in high, without alibi, without indications that I could not be on the scene,” Wolters said.
“For us, Christian B. is responsible for Madeleine’s death, and he is solely responsible.”
Brunswick’s office in charge of the investigation had confirmed last June to BFMTV that this German nationality man had already been sentenced several times, even for sexual abuses in children.
Christian Brückner firmly denies the facts. In addition, although he was accused of similar facts committed between 2000 and 2017 in Portugal, he was launched in October 2024 in these files.
