Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin exchanged on Wednesday, September 3 for the possibility of living forever, during a private conversation captured by the cameras, apart from a massive military parade organized in Beijing. In a high image in symbol, Xi Jinping shook the hand of Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, before chatting with them, walking on a red carpet near Tiananmen’s square.
“Today, at 70, we are still a child,” said Xi Jinping in Mandarin, while walking with the two men, according to the images of the Chinese state chain CCTV. “In the past, it was rare to exceed 70 years, and today it is said that at 70 we are still a child,” then translated an interpreter to the Russian.
“With the development of biotechnology, human bodies can be continuously transplanted, people can rejuvenate as they age, and can even become immortal,” Vladimir Putin replied, according to the words transmitted to Xi Jinping, always by an interpreter.
“Some predict that during the current century, it may be possible to live up to 150 years,” said Xi Jinping. The Russian leader confirmed this exchange on Wednesday at a press conference. “Ah, I think it went to the parade that the president talked about this,” he told reporters, evoking Xi Jinping.
The two leaders are 72 years old
“Modern media, both in terms of health and medical improvement, and even all kinds of surgical interventions linked to organ replacement, allow humanity to expect a longer active life to be possible, very different from what we know today,” added Vladimir Putin.
Chinese and Russian leaders, both 72, have been at the head of their country for about 12 and 20 years, accumulated. None have expressed their intention to leave power or inform a possible political successor.
The predecessors of Xi Jinping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jinta, had resigned from power after 10 years in office. But Xi Jinping abolished the limit of presidential mandates in 2018, which allowed him to run for a third five -year term in 2023.
Since 2012, he also held the position of general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, the most important position of the country that gives him control of the party, the State and the Army.
