The flotilla towards Gaza said on Monday, September 8 to Tuesday, September 9, that one of its ships was “beaten” by an out of Tunisia, that the Tunisian authorities denied saying that they have detected the “Machine No”.
The boat “was beaten by a drone in the Tunisian waters,” wrote the “Global Sumud Flot” on Instagram, which has taken the sea with activists and humanitarian aid for the besieged Palestinian territory.
She shared a video of a boat surveillance camera, in which we listened to a roar. Then you can see an activist look up, exclaim and return before hearing an explosion. A flash of light then illuminates the area.
“Aggression”
An AFP journalist arrived at Sidi Bou Saïd, near Tunisia, could see the boat surrounded by other ships, but the fire was no longer visible. Hundreds of people went to the port of Sidi Bou Saïd, shouting “free and free Palestine”.
The port of Sidi Bou Saïd is not far from the presidential palace of Cartago
The flotilla said that the six people on board were healthy and saved, mentioning material damage and denouncing “acts of aggression aimed at giving up the mission (their) mission.”
But the Tunisian National Guard told AFP that he had not detected “No Drone.”
“According to preliminary observations, a fire broke out in the life vests,” said his spokesman.
The information reported on the presence of a drone “is devoid of any base,” he insisted on the National Guard in a press release on his official Facebook page, hypothesizing that the fire could be caused by a cigarette megot.
“A drone was 100%”
Houcem Eddine Jebabli had initially indicated that the boat was 50 miles from the port of Sidi Bou Saïd.
Brazilian activist Thiago Avila published in a video on Instagram, the testimony of another member of the flotilla ensuring that he saw a drone.
“A drone was 100% that dropped a bomb,” said activist Miguel.
The UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, who lives in Tunisia and was during the night to the port of Sidi Bou Saïd, shared in X a video of the ship’s surveillance camera.
“1. Noise of what the crew identified as a drone. 2. The crew triggers the alert and asks for help. 3. Explosion. It is up to you to draw the conclusions,” he wrote.
“If it is confirmed that this is a drone attack, it would be (…) an assault against Tunisia and Tunisian sovereignty,” Francesca Albanese told journalists in the port of Sidi Bou Saïd.
AFP requested a comment to the Israeli army, but did not have an immediate response.
The Gaza Strip is the scene of a devastating war, caused by the unprecedented attack against the movement of Palestinian Islamist Hamas in the Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.
The United Nations declared in August the state of the famine in Gaza, warning that 500,000 people are in a “catastrophic” situation.
The Sumud Global Fleet Bars (“Sumud” means “resilience” in Arabic) planned to get to Gaza in mid -September to send humanitarian aid there, after two attempts blocked by Israel in June and July.
The departure of the Tunisian convoy is scheduled for Wednesday. It was postponed due to the climatic conditions and the delay taken by the Flotilla part of Barcelona, who joined Tunisia’s activists before all the boats took the sea towards Gaza.
