Donald Trump was accused on Monday, September 8 of minimizing the seriousness of domestic violence, after having said in a speech that they were “less serious” crimes not to appear in statistics.
The US president, who claims to have restored order in the city of Washington, reproached his opponents to inflate the crime figures to tarnish his history.
“Things much less serious, things that happen at home, call him crimes,” Donald Trump said during a speech dedicated to freedom of religion.
“If a man has a small discussion with his wife, he says it is a crime,” he added, awakening some laughs at the audience, according to an AFP journalist on the site.
“Domestic violence is a crime”
“Donald Trump showed us, once again, what are his convictions,” said Kim Villanuava, president of Now, a group of the Women’s Rights Association. She reproached him for being “blind” to the problem, in a statement transmitted to the AFP.
Kris Mayes, Arizona’s Attorney General, wrote in X: “Yes, Mr. President, domestic violence is a crime.”
