Turkish Justice reports in October the chp opposition party trial accused of “fraud”

Turkish justice announced Monday, September 15, the postponement of the Republican Party (CHP) of the People (CHP), the main opposition party on Monday, September 15. Accused of “fraud”, the CHP had a great winner of last year’s municipal elections, which inflicted on the presidential party of the AKP.

An Ankara Court postponed this decision on Monday, September 15 on Monday, September 15, to a possible dismissal for the “fraud” of the leadership of the main Turkish opposition party, the CHP, which offers a respite to the political party mentioned in surveys and repeated arrests.

But this decision is interpreted by experts as a strategy aimed at keeping the Republican Party of the People under pressure (CHP, social democrat), launched to a large winner of local elections last year at the expense of the coalition in power under pressure, to cause internal divisions.

“Millions of people look at him, the judge. His decision is crucial,” said Ugur Poyraz, one of the CHP’s lawyers, at the opening of the hearing on Monday morning.

Mass mobilization in Chp support

On Sunday, September 14, tens of thousands of people paraded in Ankara to support the CHP, which rejects the accusations of voting purchases during his Congress 2023 during which the current party management was appointed.

“This judgment is political, (…) is a coup d’etat and we will resist,” the Chp, Özgür Özel, saying that “the goal is not only the CHP, it is also democracy in Turkey.”

Özgür Özel, who took in November 2023 the reins of a party still sounded for his defeat in an organized presidential election six months earlier, had taken the party to a brilliant victory in the local elections of March 2024 at the expense of the Justice and Development Party (AKP, conservative of Islma) of Recep Tayyip, in power since 2002.

But the adorned will have been brief housing: the Turkish justice began in the fall of 2024 a wave of arrests for “corruption” or “terrorism” against the elected officials of the CHP, who culminated with the arrest in March of the popular mayor of Isnbul Ekrem Imamogl Erdogan Erdogan Erdogan

Weakened opposition, democracy in danger

His arrest, denounced as a “political blow” by the CHP, had caused numerous international reactions and aroused an unprecedented challenge in the country for twelve years.

Özgür Özel has been trying to keep the tyrachinas since then, organizing demonstrations every week in cities considered as bastions of President Erdogan. However, its destination seemed to be extremely uncertain, since an Istanbul Court dismissed on September 2 the Stamuliote of the CHP branch due to the accusations of voting purchases during a congress also organized in 2023.

“I do not want to live in a country without law or justice, where we cannot express ourselves. That is why we fight and continue (to do it) tirelessly,” Akbaba Sonül Akbaba, a 51 -year -old retired wind on Sunday.

For many observers, the case is similar to the attempt of the authorities to transform the oldest political party in Türkiye into an empty shell, a maneuver that would give a severe blow to pluralism in the country.

In an attempt to protect its management, the CHP summoned an extraordinary congress on September 21 to make Özgür Özel re -elevant.
