“It is a certainty”: for Robert Badinter, Vladimir Putin is a war criminal

The former Minister of Justice, an exceptional guest on BFMTV, denounced the behavior of the Russian president when Ukraine has just entered its tenth month of war.

It denounces an “unjustifiable” war. Former Justice Minister Robert Badinter, who is leaving Bousquet’s trial Ediciones Fayard considered that qualifying Vladimir Putin as a war criminal for the conflict taking place in Ukraine is “a certainty.”

“You have the complete compilation of the main responsibilities in matters of crimes of aggression and crimes against humanity,” said the former Keeper of the Seals on our antenna.

Robert Badinter also deplored what has been happening in Eastern Europe since February 24: “war is death, it is destruction, it is ruin.” A situation for which he finds no explanation.

“He lets himself be carried away by the desire of so many megalomaniac dictators”

“No one is better placed than the Russian people, who suffered so much during World War II, to experience the horrors of war,” the former minister continued, recalling that Vladimir Putin “was born in Leningrad (today Saint Petersburg, note)”, a city martyr of World War II.

“He (Vladimir Putin, editor’s note) is carried away by the desire of so many megalomaniac dictators to give back to their country the luster it thinks it has lost,” Robert Badinter said on BFMTV.

The jurist who became known for abolishing the death penalty in France was finally asked about trying the master of the Kremlin, still in power and eager to keep it. “History teaches us that it is after his fall that those responsible for crimes against humanity, provided they are arrested, can be tried. Not when they are in power”, concluded Robert Badinter.
