Scotland Yard launched the call this Friday, September 19. On its website and on social networks, the London Metropolitan Police said they were looking to get in touch and identify possible victims of Jonathan Carl.
This 42 -year -old man, described by the police as a “predator”, was sentenced last August to 17 years in prison for rape and for transmitting HIV. Police had opened an investigation to Jonathan Carl in January 2024 after the complaints of two men for events occurred in August 2023 and October 2022. But the number of people who were victims of Jonathan Carl could be much more important and tell.
According to Scotland Yard, Jonathan Carl, who went through requests for meetings such as Grindr and Scuff, had sex with almost 400 men between 2019 and 2023. Researchers have already been able to question 82 of them and some were positive for HIV.
“Be sure you’re not alone”
“Our investigation revealed the scale of the crimes of (Jonathan) Carl and allowed him to be translated into justice,” said Inspector Sarah Bishop in a video. “However, we are extremely concerned about the health of people who are not yet identified. We estimate that up to 318 men may have been victims (by Jonathan Carl) and would need projection and support.”
“Be sure that you are not alone: we are here to help you,” insists Sarah Bishop.
According to the British law, the transmission of an intentionally or reckless sexually transmitted infection is punished by law and constitutes a “serious body participation.”
To convince people who had sex with Jonathan Carl that they present themselves, the call of the London Police is accompanied by the testimony of two of their victims. “The main reason I presented to the Police is that I wanted to prevent it from happening to others,” said one of them.
“He prevented me from having the slightest romantic relationship later due to the opinion of people in general about HIV,” added the second, adding that “still fights a feeling of guilt.”
