Three quarters of UN countries already recognize the state of Palestine
At least 145 countries from the 193 UN members already recognize the state of Palestine, according to the AFP count. The latter did not obtain a recent confirmation for three African countries.
This count included the United Kingdom and Canada, the first G7 countries to make such recognition, as well as Australia and Portugal, which recognized this state yesterday.
Russia, Arab countries, almost all in Latin Africa and America, the vast majority of Asian countries, including India and China, also recognize this state.
Until the war in Gaza, Western and North Europe was unanimous in non -recognition, except Sweden since 2014. But in 2024, Norway, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia followed the Route of Stockholm.
The Israeli president deplore “a sad day for those looking for real peace”
In response to the recognition of the Palestinian State by several countries, the Israeli president deplored a “sad day for those looking for true peace.”
“It will not help any Palestinian, it will not release any hostage, and will not help us reach an agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians. This will only strengthen the forces of darkness,” wrote Isaac Herzog in a statement.

The British prime minister, Keir Starmer, justified this decision for the desire to “revive the hope of peace and a solution to two states”, in a video message transmitted on social networks.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has advanced the same argument, saying in a press release that registered it “as part of a concerted international effort to preserve the possibility of a solution of two states.”
In Australia, the head of government, Anthony Albanese, argued “the legitimate and long aspirations of the people of Palestine to a state that is proper.”
When observing his step, the Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel explained that “recognizing the state of Palestine is (…) the achievement of a fundamental, coherent and largely accepted policy,” and added that the solution of two states is “the only form of a fair and lasting peace.”
Benjamin Netanyahu says that “no Palestinian state will see daylight west of Jordan”
In a video to Western leaders who recognized the Palestinian state, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that such a state “no (no) the day.”
“I have a clear message for leaders who recognize a Palestinian state after the atrocious massacre of October 7: it offers a great reward for terrorism,” said Benjamin Netanyahu in this video transmitted by his office.
