Firefighters said they had found a body in a river in Sant Pere de Riuditlles, near Barcelona, while looking for two people whose car would have been dragged by the waters.

“The accident occurred very quickly, an important tragedy that encourages us to emphasize the need for extreme caution,” said the minister.

27 people trapped in a funicular
The strong showers of this Sunday interrupted traffic on roads and railway lines in several regions of Catalonia. Dozens of flights to destination and from Barcelona airport, the second in Spain, were delayed or canceled due to heavy rain. Local rail traffic has been temporarily suspended in certain lines due to landslides and tree falls.
