Palestine recognition: Israel’s ambassador believes that France “becomes a destabilizing agent in the Middle East”

When recognizing the state of Palestine, France “wasted an” important diplomatic lever, according to Joshua Zarka. For Israel’s ambassador to France, this lever could “change the atmosphere of the Middle East.”

Following the recognition of the state of Palestine by Emmanuel Macron to the UN, the Israel ambassador to France deplores a “waste” and fears “a loss of confidence” of his country in his relations with France.

“It is the biggest waste of a diplomatic lever in the history of our region” insists Joshua Zarka in RTL this Tuesday, September 23. “It is useless, absolutely to nowhere. France had the possibility, using this lever, perhaps changing the atmosphere that there is in the Middle East, to influence the Palestinians to make the reforms need the idea of peace,” he said.

By recognizing the Palestinian state of the UN Gallery, France “becomes a destabilizing agent in the Middle East,” says Joshua Zarka. This decision leads to “a loss of confidence” of Israel, its ambassador to France compared the situation with “a friend who explains that the decision it will make is dangerous”, who “understands it very well and continues to do so and mocks our position.”

“He will do things much more difficult in the discussion between France and Israel,” adds Joshua Zarka. “After this waste and these tensions, rebuilding.”

“Hamas wants this war to continue”

When asked about Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip that left more than 65,000 dead from the attack against Hamas on October 7, 2023, the ambassador assured that his country had “tried everything” to arrest this war with the Palestinian movement.

“We have tried everything, negotiations, specific operations, we try everything, but Hamas wants this war to continue and continue while not all hostages be released,” he said.

In the UN Gallery, Emmanuel Macron said that the establishment of a French embassy in the future Palestinian state would be conditioned to the release of the hostages held in Gaza.

In addition to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and Andorra they also formally took the recognition of this state on Monday. From now on, at least 151 countries in 193 UN Member States recognize the state of Palestine, according to the AFP count.
