Seven Buddhist monks, including three foreigners, died in a funicular accident at night in Sri Lanka (South Asia), police said Thursday, September 25.
The victims were heading to the monastery of Na Uyana, in the center of the country, said this source. The first clues suggest that the cable broke, causing the fall of the car.
“Four others in critical condition”
“There were 13 monks in the cabin. Two managed to escape with light injuries, but another four are in a critical condition” and seven died, said an AFP police officer.
He said that among the dead were monks of India, Russia and Romania. The Na Uyana monastery is about 130 kilometers northeast of the island’s economic capital, Colombo.
