Denmark Drone Overblights: Swedish prime minister evokes a probable participation of Russia

While the airports of the Norwegian and Danish capitals have recently been the objective of the drones, the Swedish prime minister, Ulf Kristerson, is likely to be a participation of Russia. According to him, these actions could aim to send a “message” to the countries that support Ukraine.

Russia is probably the source of recent drone flights above several Scandinavian airports, which occurred a few days before a European summit in Copenhagen, said on Monday, September 29, Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson.

The drones have been seen several times in Denmark and Norway since September 22, and have caused brief closures from several airports.

“All points to Russia”

“The probability that Russia wants to send a message to the countries that support Ukraine is quite high”, but “nobody really knows,” said Swedish prime minister to TV4 television channel.

“We have confirmation” that the drones that entered the Polish airspace in early September were Russians, he recalled.

With respect to Denmark and Norway, “everything points to (Russia), but all countries are cautious when it comes to pointing to a country if they are not sure. In Poland, we know that it is in fact that,” he said. Drones were also observed above the Danish military sites on Saturday night, for the second consecutive day.

Copenhagen will be to organize a top of the European Union on Wednesdays and Thursdays. To guarantee security around the summit, Denmark announced on Sunday that it closed the airspace to all civil drones flights until Friday, so that enemy drones are not confused with legal drones.

Any crime can be punished with a fine or prison sentence of up to two years.

“A country that represents a threat”

“There is a country that represents a threat to the security of Europe, and it is Russia,” Danish Prime Minister said Thursday, he put Frederiksen.

Moscow has “firmly” rejected any participation. Since then, NATO has strengthened its “surveillance” and its media in the Baltic region.

The observation of the general description of the drones last week follows the incursions of drones in Polish and Romanian territory and the rape of Estonian airspace by Russian combat planes, which exacerbated tensions in the context of the war in Ukraine launched by the Russian invasion in February 2022.
