The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Tuesday, September 30 that the Zaporijjia nuclear energy plant, occupied by the Russian forces, was now disconnected from the Ukrainian electricity network for seven consecutive days, considering the “critical” and potentially dangerous situation.
“The situation is critical. Due to the Russian attacks, the power plant has been cut off its energy supply and the network. It is fed by electricity by diesel generators,” one of them “does not work well,” said Volodymyr Zelensky in his daily speech.
“The Russians avoid the repair of the electricity lines that lead to the power plant and the restoration of basic safety for their attacks. And it is a threat to absolutely to all,” he added.
“We have never known such a situation”
This is the greatest power in Zaporijia since Russia took control of the nuclear energy plant, the largest in Europe. “Seven days have passed. We have never experienced such a situation before,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moscow and kyiv have repeatedly accused of risking a nuclear disaster attacking the site and returned the responsibility of the last power cut.
Russia said last week that the energy plant, which took control at the beginning of the war in 2022, received a rescue energy supply from an attack that has attributed to Ukraine.
The Multiple Threat Driver Plant Plant
The six reactors, which produced before the war around a fifth of Ukrainian electricity, were arrested after taking control by Moscow.
But the power plant needs electricity to maintain its cooling and safety systems, which avoid the fusion of the reactor and, therefore, a serious nuclear accident.
Since the beginning of the war, Zaporijjia has experienced multiple threats to its safety, including close frequent bombings and repeated cuts of energy and personnel shortage.
