All the hikers trapped last weekend by heavy snowfall at the foot of Mount Everest on the Tibetan side (west of China) were rescued, the Xinhua news agency reported this Wednesday morning, October 8.
In total, 580 hikers and more than 300 guides and guides arrived in the small town of Qudang to take shelter, Xinhua said, citing local authorities.
Hundreds of horses and yaks were mobilized
Hundreds of hikers were stranded by bad weather last weekend in the valley or in high camps at the foot of Everest. Authorities launched rescue operations, mobilizing hundreds of people helped by horses and yaks, at altitudes of several thousand meters.
Visitors have been flocking to the mountains of western China since the middle of last week, during an eight-day national holiday that ends Wednesday. In this period there is a considerable increase in tourist activity.
