The Spanish Civil Guard announced this Saturday, October 11, the arrest of the director of an unhealthy clandestine breeding center where 250 animals, mostly dogs, were found dead.
In this “center of horror,” as local media describe it, researchers rescued another 171 animals, including exotic and protected bird species such as macaws and cockatoos, which were in danger of death, according to the Civil Guard press release.
The site is located in Mesón do Vento, Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. The survivors fed on the carcasses of animals that died due to lack of food and water, according to the same source.

Among the live animals were dogs, chinchillas, miniature horses, chickens, ducks and various birds, he explained.
Exotic and protected species were seized, including two pink cockatoos and two macaws, one red and the other blue and yellow.
The manager of the establishment was arrested for “animal abuse, illegal possession of protected species” and illegal practice of veterinary medicine, the Civil Guard reported.
