The Hamas delegation will not participate in the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Hossam Badran, a member of its political bureau, told AFP this Saturday, October 11.
“As for the official signature, we will not be present,” he stated, stressing that the Palestinian Islamist movement acts “through Qatari and Egyptian mediators.”
He also said the idea of expelling Hamas members from Gaza, included in US President Donald Trump’s peace plan to end the war in the Palestinian territory, is “absurd.”
“Absurd and meaningless”
“The Hamas leaders present in the Gaza Strip are in their lands, where they lived, among their families and their people. Therefore, it is natural that they remain there,” he said. “Talk about expelling Palestinians, whether they are members of Hamas or not, from their land is absurd and meaningless,” he added.
In addition, he estimated that the negotiations for the second phase of the plan will be “more complex.”
“The second phase of the negotiations requires more complex discussions and will not be as easy as the first phase […] “There are many complications and difficulties that may require longer negotiations,” he added.
