Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on his allies on Sunday, October 19, to take “decisive measures” upon returning from his visit to Washington, where he did not obtain reinforced military support from the United States.
“Ukraine will never grant terrorists any reward for their crimes and we count on our partners to maintain this position,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media, calling on his European and American allies to take “decisive measures.”
The Ukrainian president went to the White House on Friday to ask his American counterpart for Tomahawk missiles, with a range of 1,600 kilometers, to reinforce the Ukrainian army against Russian forces. Donald Trump remained deaf to this request.
“The meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was very interesting and cordial, but I told him, as I also strongly suggested to President Putin, that it was time to stop the killings and reach an AGREEMENT,” the US president wrote on his Truth Social network.
Russian attacks continue to be numerous
Moscow has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, forcing thousands of people to face power outages as winter approaches.
“This week alone, Russia used more than 3,270 attack drones, 1,370 guided aerial bombs and almost 50 missiles of different types against Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Ukrainian authorities later on Sunday reported the deaths of two people in the east of the country, where more than a dozen people were injured.
Ukraine, in return, has stepped up its attacks on Russia’s western border regions and its oil and gas facilities.
This weekend, chemical plants and gas facilities in two Russian regions more than 1,500 kilometers from the front line were damaged, local governors said.
The Russian military said on Sunday it had captured two villages in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions. Both sides said they intercepted dozens of drones launched at each other overnight.
