Donald Trump said on Monday, October 20, that he would travel to China early next year to meet with President Xi Jinping, with whom he is scheduled to speak on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit at the end of the month.
“I have been invited to China and I will surely go early next year. It is more or less organized,” the US president told reporters, accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, whom he was receiving at the White House.
New customs duties
In recent days, Donald Trump announced that the United States would impose new customs tariffs on China starting November 1. This announcement follows Beijing’s recently announced restrictions on Chinese rare earth exports.
But imposing additional 100% customs duties on goods from China would not be sustainable, the US president said in an interview with Fox News, an excerpt of which was broadcast this Friday, October 17.
