24-year-old Honduran dies after being run over in the United States while trying to flee from immigration police

Josué Castro Rivera, a 24-year-old Honduran man, died on October 23 after being hit by a car on a highway while trying to flee from an immigration police checkpoint.

A new drama that further tarnishes the image of ICE, the American immigration police. Josué Castro Rivera, a 24-year-old Honduran, died this Thursday, October 23, when he was hit by a car on a highway in Virginia while fleeing from a checkpoint by federal agents.

The man was driving to his yard work with three other passengers when a team of ICE agents asked them to stop and search them. Josué Castro Riviera got out of his vehicle and walked down the road to escape from the police.

According to local and federal authorities cited by ABC News, the young man was fatally hit by a car traveling on the road. The brother of the deceased explained to the American media this Sunday that his brother had arrived in the United States four years earlier to work and send money to his family who remain in Honduras, a poor state in Central America.

“He had a good heart”

“He had a good heart,” testified his brother, who denounced an injustice. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him.” He is now trying to raise enough money to transport the victim’s remains to his country, where he will be buried.

ABC News indicates that this was not an unexpected traffic stop but was the culmination of an investigative effort. The passengers were arrested and detained because they were living in the United States without legal status.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that the victim “ferociously resisted and fled” before being hit. The administration said the dramatic disappearance was “the result of propaganda and misinformation by the media, politicians and activists about ICE missions.”

However, the expeditious methods of this federal immigration agency are making headlines with violent interventions that spreads fear among the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants present in American territory.
