At least 11 people died this Sunday in a landslide that occurred during an act of homage to the dead, in a neighborhood of Yaoundé, capital of Cameroon, the governor of that region announced on CRTV public radio.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), at the beginning of the night, four bodies covered by white sheets were removed by the police in the Damas district, on the outskirts of Yaoundé. At the scene, an AFP journalist reports, there were hundreds of residents in a panic tonight, looking for family and friends, and rescue teams trying to reach the crash site.
Several families settled in a tent on a vacant lot, on top of a hill, when the ground gave way, several neighbors told AFP.
“Right now we have 11 bodies, the searches continue to find others,” said the governor of the Center region, Naseri Paul Bea, in statements to CRTV, explaining that it was “a meeting of people who wanted to mourn the members”. of their families “who have already left”.
According to Naseri Paul Bea, some were sitting inside a tent at the site of a landslide in the early afternoon.
