After a great scare, an unbearable wait. A passenger plane crashed this Sunday into high-voltage power lines in the US state of Maryland, several US media reported, including CNN. The two people on board the plane, a pilot and his passenger, miraculously survived the crash.
Emergency services received several calls reporting that a plane had crashed into a power line in Montgomery Village. Once there, they discovered a device suspended some thirty meters high, with its passengers trapped in the cabin.
Seven hours of intervention
The two individuals on board the plane were able to communicate with the emergency services, which in turn stopped traffic in the lanes located near the accident. Rescue teams had to secure the site and make sure there was no more electricity or current to intervene.
They then unfolded a basket to reach the two trapped people. The rescue mission, which began at 5:30 p.m. local time, ended after seven hours, in the middle of the night. The two people rescued have serious injuries and suffer from hypothermia.
At the same time, this extreme intervention resulted in a power outage that affected no less than 120,000 homes for several hours and caused the closure of schools in the county during the day on Monday.
