Three stowaways who had spent 11 days hiding near the rudder of an oil tanker were rescued on Monday after arriving in the Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands, Spanish rescue and emergency organizations reported.
“Three men were located at the helm of the ship ‘Alithini II’,” while it was anchoring near the port of Las Palmas, the maritime rescue reported in a directed message.
“They were tired and showed signs of hypothermia, and upon arrival at the port they were treated by the health services,” the message said.
The 112 Emergency service explained on Twitter that the people affected had “moderate dehydration and required hospital treatment.”
According to shipment tracker shipfinder.com, the Maltese-flagged “Alithini II” set sail from the Nigerian capital Lagos on November 17. She arrived on Monday at the port of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, located off the northwest coast of Africa.
