Beijing to increase vaccination against Covid-19 among the elderly population

China announced on Tuesday the intensification of the vaccination campaign against the SARS CoV-2 virus among people over 80 years of age.

The National Health Commission has promised to transmit a statement indicating “the increase in vaccination campaigns for people over 80 years of age”, adding that inoculation of the population between 60 and 79 years of age will also increase.

The announcement by the health authorities of the People’s Republic of China comes at a time when there is opposition to the regime due to the confinement measures adopted by Beijing.

Over the weekend, hundreds of Beijing residents took to the streets breaking the current epidemic prevention measures to which they were subject, while demonstrations spread across several Chinese cities against the imposition of the containment measures.

In some cases, protesters chanted against Chinese leader Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China.

“People across China are taking extraordinary risks to demand their human rights,” said Yaqiu Wang, senior researcher in China for Human Rights Watch, urging authorities in Beijing to “allow everyone to peacefully express their views.”

In the statement, the organization recalls the various peaceful protest demonstrations that have multiplied in recent days against health restrictions, including residents in the Urumqui neighborhood of Beijing, or students in various Chinese cities.

Later, Human Rights Watch says it had access to video footage circulating on the Internet showing “dozens of police” arriving at protest sites to “disperse the crowd, violently.”
