War in Ukraine: a mass grave discovered near Kherson after the departure of the Russians

Two weeks after the recapture of Kherson by Ukrainian forces, a mass grave containing six bodies was discovered less than 50 kilometers from the city.

Ukrainian researchers are gradually revealing the extent of the terrible human cost of the Russian occupation in the Kherson region. Following the discovery of torture chambers in the city, Ukrainian police on Monday dug up six bodies from a mass grave some fifty kilometers away, described our American colleagues from the New York Times.

The bodies of the six people in this mass grave showed signs of execution. Three of them had their hands tied with rope, while two others had bullet holes in the back of their skulls.

In Pravdyne, villagers told investigators that the six people lived in a house that the Russians blew up after killing them last April, which would explain the advanced state of decomposition of the victims’ bodies.

It could thus be a new war crime of which Russia could be found guilty if the European Commission manages to create the special court, supported this Wednesday by Ursula von der Leyen.

The creation of such a court has been demanded on several occasions by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as by the Baltic countries.
