For this mute old man, the story is like a Swiss Christmas miracle. Two good Samaritans returned the 20,000 francs in cash (almost 20,300 euros) that he had lost in a parking lot.
The man had driven to an ATM in Martigny to withdraw this large sum of money, the Valais cantonal police said in a press release.
Money returned in full
Once he got home, he realized the money was missing and went to the nearest police station to report a robbery.
But the money had not been stolen! They found him in the parking lot where the old man had parked his car, the tickets carefully kept in an envelope with the statement and even the address of the house.
“The couple went to the home of the unfortunate old man to return his money in full,” the statement said.
500 francs given to the couple
As a reward for the good deed, the old man, head up in the air but grateful, gave the couple 500 francs.
“A beautiful story of civic honesty lived in our canton, a story that was worth sharing with you on this first day of Advent”, the Valais police rejoice.
